(Mirabilis jalapa) This “Marvel of Peru” took Europe by storm in the 1500s when seeds were brought back from S. America. Thomas Jefferson included four o’clocks, or “Afternoon Ladies”, in his gardens at Monticello. One of the most commonly grown flowers of the 1800s, the pretty trumpet shaped blooms open in the late afternoon and release a light fragrance. Flowers produced from mid-summer through first frost. Most/full sun - 2 feet - Grow as annual (tender perennial) - 25+ seeds.
